Did you see him?
A voice whispered.
So freaky...
Said another.
I sighed inwardly, tuning out the quiet voices in the next room as best as I could. Of course, I was the new student, and a quite...well, actually freaky would describe me pretty well. I wore a nice, white goodie, with random black scribbles all over it. Nothing to detailed.
The hood was up as I walked down the hallway, towards my locker, though I really didnt need it to be. My long, messy black straight hair hid enough of my face that it wasnt necessary. But it was just an old habit. And old habits die hard.
Whistling slightly, I spun the combination on the lock, the numbers already clear in my head, even though I had only glimpsed at the paper crumpled up in my hand once.
Vampires never forget. Anything.
The locker door swung open, showing an already black and bloody like decorated sanctuary. Bands like Mettalica, A.C.D.C., and System of a Down were all over the door, all of my newly acquired books covered with skull book covers.
I may not care for school too much, but the decorating was a bit of fun. It never changed much, but I still liked the way peoples footsteps would quicken when they would catch a glimpse in the open door, trying to get away from the freaky emo kid as fast as possible. I didnt blame them much.
Changing the whistle to a hum, I started towards the lunch room, knowing well where I was going to sit. Out on the patio, where no one was, far away on the edge of a small wall, far enough to block out the quite whispers that seemed extremely loud to my sensitive ears.
Of course, they all got softer and louder at the same time when in entered the huge room, all eyes unconsciously rotating to me.
I smirked, used to this treatment, and headed off to the door way. No teachers tried to stop me, probably their sub consciousness telling them to keep alive.
Of course, I didnt feel very smug when I stepped out in to the freezing (yet barely registered) air, and noticed a group of kids sitting on the low wall, all laughing, and having a good time. And obviously ignoring me.
I had no problem with that, or the fact that they were where I was going to spend my free time. The only problem I had was their scent.
No... I thought. There couldnt be any- I never caught their scent once- its not possible.
The group of young vampires still ignored me as I stared at them with wide eyes and mouth agape.
I sniffed the air again, tentatively. Yes, yes, these were vampires alright. They had a distinct human smell about them too, a little more than I thought, but I put that aside as spending to much time around the humans. This was school, after all.
Shaking my head, and closing my mouth, I started off at the opposite corner of the wall, in the shade of the huge building, and a little closer than I would have liked, but it would make do. I was stopped, though, by a loud and clear voice, soft as velvet, and sweet as honey. A voice quite like mine.
Hey, there. Are you sure you dont want to eat inside? from the taunting barely hinted in the males voice, I could tell that he didnt know what I was. That I was his equal, and maybe more. Smirking, but keeping my back to them, I shrugged my shoulders, and started walking again.
I could almost hear the surprised silence, and my smirk grew wider. It had seemed as though he had been trying to use the persuasion that came with the vampires voice to get me to go back inside. Only a weakling vampire would not be able to resist, but someone who had lived as long as me had no challenge keeping control of my own mind.
Why, are you quite certain about tha deary? Another voice called, defiantly female, and there was a southern accent hidden among the sugar and bells in her tone. Again, her voice was just as patronizing as the males.
I still didnt answer with words, knowing it would give me away. Nodding my head, and making a show of it, I plopped myself down, using the wall for support. Reaching into the bag, I pulled out a bottle of...cool-aid, and a turkey sandwich. That of course, I had no intention of eating.
Yo, dude. Seriously, eating inside is way better than out here, kay?
Time to get it through their thick skulls that Im not going any where.
I was about to say something, but then I thought better of it. All I needed to prove what I was, was a blink of my crimson eyes, or a wide smile. That mixed with my scent, should be enough to prove what I was.
Raising my head slowly, or dramatically as some would say, letting my hair fall out of my eyes, I gave them a nice, fangy smile, and said in a lullaby-like voice, No, I think not. I rather prefer to keep away from the mortals, dont you? Too tempting in my idea.
I could have laughed when I saw their shocked expressions, their own mouths dropping open, showing their own fangs, but my own smirk was whipped away by a sudden news flash in their eyes.
They were ...colorful.
Not red, like a filled vampire who had just had his fill on a young girl, who laid unconscious in an alley way, or black like a cranky, and thirsty young one.
Blue. Violet. Hazel. And even a soft amber.
Not red.
Not a vampires.
I panicked for a moment, before calmness overtook for a second. They were vampires, I thought. Their eyes were brighter, more alluring than a humans. Well, at least the two males and one of the females. One of the pairs, a bright blue, wasnt as light as the others, but once again, I pushed it off as nothing.
Then a sudden cold disgust went through me.
They were Inimile.
Vampires who were too sad and grieving to cause the human race pain, and who took to hunting in forests, feeding on weaker and furry animals.
Inimile. Vampires who still have a heart. Theoretically, of course.
It explained it all. Inimile still had ..feelings for the human race, which some how made their scent come off as more
humane. It was impossible to detect them, unless you knew what you were looking for. Or happened to be standing a few yards away.
Their reaction was soon acted upon. One of the males, a red haired, muscular guy with a Simple Plan t-shirt on with chained pants, and with the hazel eyes, jumped in front of the group, baring his fangs and getting in a protective crouch. His ears were covered with piercings, all shades of red and black, and a few on his eyebrow, though none on his lip or nose. A rounded spiked collar wrapped around his neck, like a dog.
Combat shoes adorned his feet, big and bulky, and black.
I raised an eyebrow, not sure why he was acting so...guarded. I had no intention of fighting against them. Not only would I not survive, but there was no reason to kill a fellow vampire, even if they happened to disgust me with their hunting habits. It would be pure.....heartless.
I smiled at the irony.
My smile faded as I noticed two of the others do the exact same thing. The other male, shorter than the first, with blonde spikes that had pink ends, who had the amber eyes, got in front of the violet eyed female, while she got into a crouch of her own. The pink haired male was relatively shorter than the other, but his look of protectiveness made up for the muscles and height. He had on a shirt with a skull in the front, and a pair of jeans, even more baggy than the hazel eyed boy, with a spiked belt keeping them from falling around his ankles. He had on two wrist bands, with a barbed wire design on them.
He wore no piercings, unlike his friend, but I could see a tattoo of some random design on his arm. I didnt care enough to take a closer look.
He had a pair of black tennis shoes, the brand being DC.
The growling female had longer hair then both of the boys, a startling shade of white, with blue bangs that turned purple at the end, perfectly straight. She only had, oh, maybe twenty studs in her ears, each, but strangely enough, it was still less then the first boys. Her outfit was rather lighter than the others, just because she had a bit of pink and green mixed in with her unusual outfit, of green fishnet stockings, and pink net sleeves, and a rib caged green t, over a black shirt, that had pink hearts all over it. Her skirt was pink, with black crosses on it, and had two shiny chains on the sides. Her shoes were a pair of bright pink chucks.
Again, this confused me. Why were they all acting like I was a threat?
Then I took a closer look.
3 of them were getting in fighting stances.
One wasnt.
The other girl hadnt moved an inch when I had appeared outside, like the others, but right now she only stared at me, confused, over the heads of the 3 angry vampires. Her hair was long, curly and brown, with the ends died a deep purple, a shade darker than the white haired girl. She wore a skelanimal-bat hoodie, the sleeves ripped at the ends, showing a pair of black fishnet sleeves, with black finger nails.
She had an earbud in one of her ears, while the other hung at her side, her finger on the pause button. Obviously confused.
And obviously human.
Of course. That was why they were getting so protective! They thought I would turn her into a midday snack or something. She must have been one of the Inimiles girlfriend, or something. Though I had to admit, with the way they were acting, it would be making their identity of being a vampire a little obvious.
What the
um, guys, whats wrong? the girl asked, timid, but not terribly shy.
The white haired one murmured something to her, but I wasnt paying enough attention to catch it.
The girl looked a little shocked, but then shrugged and tried to calm down. It made me wonder even more what the girl had said to her.
Listen you-, the first male said, hazel eyes flashing.
My name, I cut in coldly, Is not You. It happens to be Reavon.
Whatever. But I am warning you. Get away from here. If your planning on attacking us,
Good Lord, I cut in again, snorting. That is mighty kind of you to think, eh? I come to school, my very first day also, and Im already being accused that I have come to kill you and your little band of Inimles. I had no idea you were even here.
Though I said it with a smirk, I had to admit, it was most likely the truest thing I ever said.
Haidren, cool it. The human said.
Xandra, dont get mixed up in this, hazel-eyed growled. Ah, so his name was Haidren. And apparently, the humans was Xandra.
Hi, Im Xandra. The human said, nimbly dodging around the three protective vampires, to stand in front of me. She held her hand out, as though offering me to shake it.
In a blink of an eye, Haidren had her pinned behind him, and I wasnt quite sure if he was snarling at me or the young girl.
Dria, help me please! Xandra called to the other girl. Dria merely gave her a be quiet glare.
Trendon? she whined. The other boy didnt even look her way, too intent protecting Dria, though I doubt she needed any protecting.
Ugh, fine. Xandra said, then suddenly, Haidren was down on the ground, Xandra standing on top of him.
Xandra, what the heck is wrong with you? IM YOUR BROTHER FOR PETES SAKE!
Xandra shrugged, and said matter of factly, Actually, you being my brother just entitles me to do that even more.
I blinked in surprise. The human
just
kicked the vampires @$#? Well, that isnt something you see everyday.
Right, she said, walking towards me. Like I said, Im Xandra. Nice to meet you. She held out her hand, waiting for me to shake it.
Reavon, I replied vaguely taking her hand lightly. I wasnt breathing, knowing that her scent was most likely going to be quite sweet. I wasnt certain, but fate had the habit of doing cruel things to me. Like making the one person I couldnt drink out of because she was being protected by a clan of human lovers smell delectable, though not as sweet as my soul mate would.
See, there was another weird thing about being a vampire. We were able
to sort of..see into a persons soul, through their blood. Nothing like their hopes and dreams, or any of that oddness, but sort of
how much we
would be compatable. Well, what I meant was that, a vampire has a certain scent, that intruiges him more than any other scent. Normally of a human, of course. When it was an animal, we just ate it. But when a human smelled so delectable, so sweet, that all you wanted to do was sink your fangs into their pretty little neck
that meant, that she, or he, was the ONE. The only thing that could
I dont know, complete your soul. A.k.a., your soul mate.
It still confused me as much as ever, but I had herd that unless it happened to you, you wouldnt understand the
intensity of the relation. The only thing I got, was that if your soul mate hated you, well, I just say it would be worse than repeatedly stabbing yourself with a knife, digging deeper and deeper each time. Happy, no?
But of course, it was far rarer than finding a deer with hind legs made of snake skin. That was born that way, and alive, I mean.
Great, so I hear that you are a vampire?
So startled by that, I dropped her hand by accident, and stared at her in shock. She. Knew. About. Vampires.
Oh, how very, peachy.
You, know. Of course, it wasnt a question.
Xandra, though you are my sister, and I love you, I must say, that was the stupidest thing you could have done.
Haidren growled. He was still lying on the ground, though he looked like he wanted to jump up and grab Xandra, and possibly make a run for it.
Why isnt he-, I mused, but Xandra cut me off.
Moving? Simple. Once you live with a bunch of vampires for your whole life, you learn how to take them down, just so if they tick you off, they dont have the bigger advantage,
Ah, was all I said.
Dria, Xandra, come on, help me pick up Haidren. He wont be able to move for the next few hours, Trendon all but growled. Dria skipped over the paralyzed boy and hosted him over her shoulder, her angry eyes glazing over in a look of calmness.
Trendon, we can take him back alone. He wont hurt Xandra. His energy is too clean.
Dria, if you havent noticed, his eyes are red. Meaning. He. Eats. People.
Yeah, I noticed, Dria replied dryly, but started walking off towards the parking lot, ignoring Trendon. But hes telling the truth. Or do you think I would lie about my little cousins safety? she raised an eyebrow, then looked back at Xandra. Besides. Youre failing at math. Youll just have to sit tight with the human blood drinker for the rest of the day. Maybe he can torture you or something.
I looked at the female vampire strangely. I think you might mean tutor?
Dria flashed another dry smile, and said mildly, Same thing to Xandra.
Ok, no fair. Your skipping, and I get to hang out a SCHOOL? What kind of awesome cousin are you? Xandra asked, wrinkleing her noze. Instead of Dria answering, Trendon did.
Because she cares more about your learning. And besides, you know Drias little gift. She can detect a lie a mile away. Youll be fiiiine.
And with that, they left.
And Xandra turned to me, grinning widly. I raised an eyebrow at her. Youre going to use the fact I cant eat you completely to your atvantage, and annoy me all day, arent you?
Youre smart. She praised, before she started firing of questions.
Why arent you breathing? Is your hair naturally black? Are your eyes red because you drink human blood, or were you born that way? Can you eat food? What about doughnuts? If you had to choose between the Red and Blue team, would you choose red, or blue? Who do you like better? Caboose? Or Griff? Caboose is more funny. Hes an idiot, but oh well. Do you like cats? My friend has a cat. Her name is Bella. The cat, not my friend. My friends name is Allison. Or as I like to call her, Bled-Head. Dont ask why. Did you know the cat was named after Bella in a book? Her full name is actually Isabella-Marie-Swan-Alice-Esme -,
How long is this name? I asked, slightly irritated.
Pretty long. Anyways, its Isabella-Marie-Swan-Alice-Esme-Rosealie-Cullen-Angela-Jessica-Kitrel. Or at least something like that.
What possessed your friend to give her such a long, demonic name? I asked incredulous. I never thought Id see the day when Id feel sorry for a cat. Now that day has come.
A book, she replied simply.
Riiiiiiight. I said, rolling my eyes. I was beginning to think I was much more sane than this little human.
Taking a deep breath (what can I say? I forgot not to breathe. Most people dont have to remember it.)
And almost went crazy.
Oh, great. Just great. First, I come across a group of Inimile, and then it turns out the human that hangs out with them is my soul mate.
I blinked, 1, 2, 20 times, before I got it through my thick skull. It was her. She was it.
THIS $@#$$!
With my luck, shes going to hate me, and Im going to turn into a crabby old hermit.
On second thought, maybe I should have just become that in the first place. Then I wouldnt have to deal with this.
I looked at her long and hard. She cocked her head to the side, as if wondering why I was staring at her, as most people do when they notice someone staring at them. It IS the after all, the most common reaction.
Hey, I said casually, thinking that if she was going to hate me, I could at least do one more thing before she totally killed me. can you close your eyes for a second?
Sure, she said, and obediently closed her eyes. Why do you want me- she was immediately cut off when I kissed her lightly, and pulled back after a moment.
She opened her eyes, and said at me calmly, but quite creepily, I am really hoping that you didnt just make me kiss a frog or something.
Uh
no
I said, slightly offended that I kissed like a frog. I wasnt THAT bad.
Ok, good
. She said. cause if it was, then Id be really embarrassed that I liked kissing a frog
Huh? was the only remotely intelligent thing that came to my mind to say.
Hmm? Oh, well, Im basically saying that youre a pretty good kisser.
Uh
thanks?
What, no slap, no tantrum, no YOU TOTAL MAN-SLUT!? What the heck is wrong with this human girl?
Let me guess. Im either your soul mate
she paused for a second, and I stared at her, surprised, but then she continued, Or you are a total man-slut.
Ah. There we go. I was waiting for that.
Well? she asked, impatient.
Oh, uh. The first one. I replied sheepishly.
Great! I hate man-sluts. She replied sheepishly. Hey, wanna go out? Itd be a great way to skip school, she hinted.
Sure, I said. And I was sure that I was no longer sane. What had happened to the emo, middleaged talking boy I used to be, that would rather eat this human girl than go on a date with her? Ah well.
I guess its goodbye sanity, hello love. Eh, I guess its a fair trade.
THAT WAS THE CRAPY ENDING. DEAL WITH IT.
